Suffice it to say that the song "The Internet is for porn" caused me to do a very real spit take all over the dashboard of my car.

True story.

Messy - but true.

Catch you in two and two.Denahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14529564772228723575noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8575899943993965157.post-83740067682956177122008-04-30T13:56:00.000-07:002008-04-30T13:56:00.000-07:00Dena --First: Thank you for enjoying my employ of ...Dena --

First: Thank you for enjoying my employ of the Sacagawea dollar. I've only seen photos of the fair girl -- she has disappeared without a trace, at least in my world. Perhaps if we keep mentioning her, she will make a comeback?

Secondly: Glad to be back. What I hoped to be a weekly thing though, just ain't. You can always subscribe via e-mail on the page so it will send you a new post as soon as it's up, because it seems to take half a day for it to register on my Facebook page...

Thirdly: Look at you getting all Tao on me! Yes, absolutely, the journey, the experience, the process -- that's what it's all about. And that's why I felt good about sharing this story/blog, because we all go through it somehow, in some way, at some point. But relativism gets us absolutely nowhere -- we can only live our own lives!! As to my gorgeous son, whenever I'm with him, I know that's where I'm supposed to be. All the rest is detail...

Also, thank you, Kid Bruiser, for offering up your fists of fury, but I'm good. Because the only person who gets in my way of being the best writer I can be is me. So please don't kick my ass, I'm very non-violent and tender.Lori Lakin Hutchersonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01082907396437342215noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8575899943993965157.post-56237815988139876852008-04-30T13:46:00.000-07:002008-04-30T13:46:00.000-07:00Oh, I'm behind a few classes on Oprah. It just writes itself!Lori Lakin Hutchersonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01082907396437342215noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8575899943993965157.post-43670642605312064542008-04-30T13:45:00.000-07:002008-04-30T13:45:00.000-07:00Michael, whenever I get around to writing my "Amer...Michael, whenever I get around to writing my "American Idol" blog I will name check you so hard you'll think I'm a sadistic homeroom teacher. As to the "bete noire" of it all (never a favorite term of mine as the literal translation is "black beast"), I actually believe it still counts as jealousy (disguised as righteous indignation) even if it is directed at the undeserving. No matter how "wrong" it is for not-so-talented people to succeed, the bottom line is if you covet what they have, how they got it (luck, looks, networking, money, sex) is just detail.

I agree there is nothing wrong with this or any other type of envy as long as it is recognized as such and doesn't become a "raison d'etre" (we are so French this week!) and poison your reality. Envy/healthy competition are I'm sure closely related for many, or some sort of yin/yang pairing.

Now that you and Teddy have both thoroughly endorsed "Avenue Q", I must take in more than just the one song. I've always heard so much crap about it -- maybe from people who don't want to face the icky icky?

And finally, yes, David Geffen would be impressed by you, sweetie. Goes without saying.Lori Lakin Hutchersonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01082907396437342215noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8575899943993965157.post-20576475273337187882008-04-29T10:41:00.000-07:002008-04-29T10:41:00.000-07:00i assumed Juno was directed by the same guy that d...i assumed Juno was directed by the same guy that directed Knocked Up, because it's about unexpected pregnancy and Michael Cera stars as Juno's boyfriend, but alas this was not the case.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8575899943993965157.post-64068595394644127452008-04-29T08:33:00.000-07:002008-04-29T08:33:00.000-07:00First of: excellent use of the sacagawea dollar. I've been looking daily for your next words of wisdom.

Thirdly: Fabulous introspection. I do think that in many areas of our lives we do enjoy the schadenfreude aspect of envy or jealousy. It's hard to look at others and say, "I want what they have - WAH!" I applaud you for seeing that part of yourself and working through it. I do think you are very hard on yourself though. The "job" you're doing now (job in quotes not for snarkiness but to pose a point) is tremendously important and while it's not what you "thought" you'd be doing with your almost 17 month old - is anything going as we'd planned it would? Part of the being a grown up process is getting with that vibe and embracing it. We each need our own vehicle to get us there.

Your vehicle was this experience.

On a more personal note - if anyone gets in your way of being the best writer you can be - you let me know. I may be 5"4', but I can take 'em. Use what you got baby...

Much love for you from me.
d.Denahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14529564772228723575noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8575899943993965157.post-52991487789742262252008-04-28T20:30:00.000-07:002008-04-28T20:30:00.000-07:00And how is your Oprah class going? And how is your Oprah class going?Michael in New Yorkhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01449933463450154603noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8575899943993965157.post-32460940332313750122008-04-28T20:29:00.000-07:002008-04-28T20:29:00.000-07:00You name-checked Teddy but not me. They're the much better-looking gay man/men at Entertainment Weekly who got to say snappy things on TV and glided to lunch with the top editors while I straggled in to cadge a few free books and try to pitch a DVD story to a down-the-ladder subhead. They're the boyfriends of big gay talent who step easily into new careers. But hey, if I were having lunch with David Geffen, I'm sure he'd be impressed by my witty banter, deep pop knowledge and ask me to write up a treatment too. Wouldn't he? Nothing wrong with a little envy, especially if it pricks us on to working harder on what we really care about rather than settling. And when people succeed with work we really like, I think those feelings can and should evaporate. It's the talentless fools who get to make lots of money that really drive me crazy. It was like the days when I worked as a fact checker correcting all the errors in articles by writers who couldn't write, couldn't do interviews and knew nothing about movies and yet were being paid much money to deliver cover stories for Premiere. Avenue Q is indeed a source of much wisdom, including its accurate distillation of the uses of the Internet.Michael in New Yorkhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01449933463450154603noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8575899943993965157.post-63152361034547464742008-04-27T14:28:00.000-07:002008-04-27T14:28:00.000-07:00I wonder why... but I'm really glad you liked it -...I wonder why... but I'm really glad you liked it -- wouldn't have happened without you!Lori Lakin Hutchersonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01082907396437342215noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8575899943993965157.post-55857618147127436202008-04-27T12:18:00.000-07:002008-04-27T12:18:00.000-07:00This was my favorite DEEP POP entry yet! ;)- Ted...This was my favorite DEEP POP entry yet! ;)

- TeddyTeddy Tenenbaumhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16228612948331382938noreply@blogger.com
